BEAVER DAM MALL: BEAVER DAM, WI

Zack Norton's Commentary

Posted February 27, 2008 (user submitted)

The city of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, located halfway between Fond du Lac and Madison, has plenty of amentities, all within easy access of US 151. However, don't bother looking inside the Beaver Dam Mall, located at the intersection of Spring Street and Industrial Drive on the north side of town.

One day, I took a walk through the mall. There were only two stores and a Chinese buffet open. The mall once had Wal-Mart, JC Penney, and Herberger's (part of the Boston Store/Younkers family) as anchors. Only Herberger's remains, and it seems to do all right, despite the lack of business in the mall. Wal-Mart moved to a new supercenter a couple of miles away, and JC Penney is now Slumberland furniture. However, Slumberland has sealed off the access to the rest of the mall.

At one time, there was a letter on the door to the mall from the management group that owns the mall, stating that there only plans for the mall are to attract new tenants. Yeah, good luck with that! With a bigger and better mall in Fond du Lac, and FOUR ENCLOSED MALLS in Madison, I'm sure that the people in Beaver Dam are heading to the greener pastures of Mad City and Fondie to do their shopping!
