This mall has changed ownership more than 4 times in a 20 year period. Tenancy is barely at 2/3 capacity, if even that. The mall has lost most of it's major stores, and efforts to revive the mall have failed miserably. Baytown is located about 20 miles east of Houston, and Baytonians prefer to spend their dollars at the upscale Galleria in Houston or at the Kay Mills Mall. Every time my husband and I walk through the mall, which is dead, even during the holidays, we commant about how they ought to just give up.
As of November 2022, The mall has been completely demolished and the land scraped clean. What once was the amazing, fantastic, futuristic wonder world that The San Jacinto Mall once was will now be replaced with an unremarkable, boring typical strip center that you see everywhere nowadays. It’s so sad, because I grew up here in this mall and it was way more than a “place to buy stuff” Sadly, Baytown will never, ever have anything this nice ever again…at least in our lifetimes.

The mall ceased operations on January 4, 2020 and will be redeveloped into an outdoor shopping destination. The first phase is due to open in November 2020.
